What is Modular Furniture?

You might be asking yourself ‘what is modular furniture?’ The simple answer is that it is moveable objects (or ‘partitions’) that can be moved around and arranged so that they make up something that resembles normal furniture or parts of buildings. Modular furniture is essentially different building blocks (think of it like ‘LEGO’) that you can move around to create your perfect situation. For example, you might have a sofa at home which is actually made up from 4 or 5 individual seats (including corner seats). You can mix and match these parts (thus changing the shape and size of your sofa) in order to get exactly what you want and what is right for your home.
There are a few different types of that you can get: modular office furniture, modular home (and living room) furniture, modular bedroom furniture and outdoor modular furniture. The great thing about modular furniture is that it’s totally flexible since you can move it around and reposition it whenever you wish. It’s not confined because it’s not screwed onto or attached to anything.
Typically the most common type of modular furniture that you’ll find is for the office. Since every workplace is different and has different requirements, having a kind of furniture that is flexible and that can be changed easily to fit its surroundings is extremely useful. The problem with fixing everything to the wall is that often offices can change and move around (when there is a change of staff) so having everything so set in stone is rarely a good idea.
With all of these advantages, however, comes a price, and a heavy price at that. Modular office furniture is, on average, more expensive than ordinary office furniture. That being said you are more likely to get your money’s worth since it is more versatile, so you’re still getting value for money. The most common piece of modular furniture that you’ll find in the office are cubicles and dividers (also known as partitions). These are basically artificial walls that usually range from 4 to 7 feet high, and are held up by small perpendicular feet at the bottom of them that lay flat against the ground. If you do decide to buy some cubicle walls, think long and hard about how tall you get them. Buying modular office furniture that is only 4 feet high means that most people can see over the top of them with very little effort. This will lead to people talking and socializing a lot more than if they were 7 feet high, so think carefully about what kind of office environment you’re trying to create.
