We all know what clocks are for; they tell the time to all those that look at them (providing they are set correctly). The purpose of large wall clocks is to tell the time more clearly or to more people than smaller clocks can (since they are bigger they can be more easily seen from long distances). Think of the most famous clock in the world, if you will: Big Ben. One of London’s hottest tourist spots; Big Ben is essentially just a large wall clock that tells people the time from all directions (although it is also attached to the Houses or Parliament).

Combine these large wall clocks then with a sense of humour or novelty and you’re onto a winner. They say that novelty is the sexiest and most attractive thing in the world and it seems that when it comes to large decorative wall clocks that this is no different.

Large novelty wall clocks make excellent presents for friends and family, and can be especially brilliant when the joke or novelty element is tailored to that person. For example, I have a friend who is always saying that five o’clock never comes round enough when he’s working (he works an incredibly boring office job). When I say an extra large wall clock with the number five on every digit (so instead of ‘12’ it said ‘5’ and instead of ‘7’ it said ‘5’ and so on) I knew it would be the perfect gift for him.

That being said, for a clock to be novel it doesn’t have to be as ingenious as this. For example, most children love to see their favourite cartoon and children’s characters on their clocks at home (such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, or Snow White if it’s for a girl).

There are literally thousands of different novelty large wall clocks out there (such as crystal clocks) at the moment and most can be found online or in gadget shops at your local mall. If you’re stuck for ideas for a present for a loved one, why not see if there’s a clock that would make the perfect gift for them? For one reason or another, large wall clocks have become increasingly popular (IKEA has a large round wall clock that is selling by the bucket load) and it seems as though they’re here to stay.
