Executive Office Furniture and Your Working Space

Posted on November 10th, 2010 in Office Furniture | No Comments »

Shopping for office furniture for executives can be a great experience (if done properly). Deciding what furniture to choose, however, can lead to bad choices if you tend to get carried away with the rush of shopping—without even thinking about how your existing interiors would blend with your office furniture. Whether you plan to setup your working area in your home or in an office building, it would be wise for you to have a good idea of what you might need in the first place, not to mention the budget involved for such an investment.

With the recent discovery of Ergonomics, the way manufacturers create new furniture designs will never be the same. Today, comfort has been included as one of the topmost considerations if the idea is to provide comfort and safety. Thus, it would be highly unreasonable to purchase posh and trendy furniture if it causes physical strain in the long run.

It definitely pays to have a first-hand look at some furniture on display at your nearest store. For instance, an office chair should fit well with our normal body curve. Office tables, for example, should be elevated at a height which most users find most comfortable, preferably at elbow level to provide optimum comfort. The same concept should apply to other office furniture such as conference tables, reception desks, and many others.

Your average office furniture is also made of different kinds of materials: from wood to synthetic materials. Synthetic materials provide the same professional look but with lower price tags due to cheaper production costs. However, leather has always been popular as compared to fabric finishes.

To add up to the professional ambiance of your working space, you might as well use contemporary curtains to complete the whole ambiance. These curtain types add up to the modern and stylistic look of your office. Just make sure that the colors you choose blend well with your office furniture.

Safety Issues with Used Office Furniture

If you are buying used office furniture to save money and time, it’s important that you first learn about the possible safety issues that this kind of furniture might produce. For example, you may choose to buy a used couch instead of new item. That’s OK, but understands that when you search for used products look for cleanliness. Some people have bought used couches that brought roaches into their office or home. Others got lice, or other menacing problems with their purchase. Bugs can hide in clothe or fibers including fleas, roaches, spiders, lice, etc.

Used carpet may produce toxins that result into flames. Old carpets are hazardous in some instances. Materials that contain used lacquer, paint, fabric, finish, etc can play a major role in your environment. Employees’ health is priority, so buy used furniture wisely.

Used carpets can deteriorate indoor air quality. You can cause more harm than good by bringing in a high volume of pollutants, which may have potential adverse effects on your employees’ health. If the air supply in your office is poor, it can lead to health problems. Your employees may build diseases from a poor air supply system.

Older carpets may bring into your office dust mites, microns, and other pollutants that decrease clean airflow quality. These pollutants can cause sinus and allergies, or even asthma if not treated properly, and often. Like couches, bugs can get into used carpets. Bugs like lice, spiders, fleas, etc often find a home in fiber material.

Sometimes furniture is recalled. You never know when you are purchasing items that have been recalled. These items have defects that could cause harm to your employees or clients. You can find a list of recalled items posted at consumer sites on the Web. It pays to take time to find out which items have been recalled to avoid harm.

Best-used furniture options are available on the Web. You can take some time to research the Internet to find out about the best products to buy for your business. Filing cabinets sold in used products should be considered as well. Some filing cabinets are easy to catch fire. Other filing cabinets are made of materials that prevent fires. Look for the fireproof filing cabinets in the used line of furniture.

Buying fireproof office desks and other supplies is a good idea too. If you do not have the right amount of insurance for your home office, fires can start if the wrong furniture is installed. You lose everything you worked hard to get if insurance is not in place. It pays to learn about safety issues with used office furniture to avoid loss, health problems, and more.

Rebuilding Your Office: The Economical Way

When a burgeoning company is looking to stock its offices with furniture, rarely does the thought occur to those doing the stocking how easy it would be to acquire used office furniture for half the cost but all of the quality.  Most people do not realize that quite a few different states have turned to low bid auctions in order to get rid of surplus office equipment that by itself is not worn out or bad but has simply been replaced by newer furniture and equipment.

Going to one of these auctions can save a company several hundred dollars if they carry out the bidding properly and if the person who is doing the bidding and scouting the auction makes sure to know what they are doing.  Say you need a new set of executive office chairs but do not want to spend upwards of $400 on the set at the local Office Depot.  By using these furniture and equipment auctions to get used office furniture on the cheap you have managed to spend about half if not even less than that on what was originally budgeted for the equipment.  When you are talking about a startup company smart decisions mean the difference between a successful beginning and getting off to a rocky start.

Stacking office chairs are some of the more sought after office furniture pieces by any company that wants to make sure they have enough seating not only to accommodate their staff but also any clients or prospective investors when visits are paid.  These are also some of the cheapest furniture pieces around when looking to buy them at used office furniture and equipment auctions because they are so plentiful and well used in other offices as well.

You may not find that piece of office furniture that is going to give your business a boost in the looks department at these types of auctions, but the chances are that is not what you were going for anyway if you are attending.  Save the big ticket purchases for the Office Depots and Office Maxes of the world.  Let one high-end purchase of a granite desk top be the thing that you spend your decorating budget on.  There is no need to go out and purchase stackable office chairs for even as low as $20 a pop when you go get them used but still in great condition for as little as $2 a piece or even lower should you get very lucky.

If you are not the boss of this new company but have been left in charge of making these kinds of decisions you might even find that these choices are the difference between you moving up and your moving out.

Save Money by Choosing Second Hand Office Furniture

Posted on May 3rd, 2010 in Office Furniture, Used Furniture | 3 Comments »

If you are considering remodeling a room in your home to be used as an office, you might consider purchasing second hand office furniture to use in it. There are several outlet stores that specialize in reselling used office and school furniture. They purchase them at a reduced price when businesses and schools are either closing down or getting new items. The products they carry are all high quality items and can be used for a new home office area. You will find the professional style of desks and chairs at these outlet stores.

They will also carry items such as file cabinets and computer desks to make your office be a more efficient place to do business. Some of these items may be made of the lighter weight metal such as chrome, although you may be considering using more traditional furnishings for your office such as wood products. If this is the case you can find several items available as unfinished office furniture. The unfinished pieces allow you to make them whatever color you want for your personal office space. There are several kinds of desks and chairs available as well as many bookcase and cabinet units.

For those people looking to save as much money as possible, checking your local thrift stores for furniture items is a good way to pick up cheaply priced good quality furniture. You might find a wood desk and chair for less than $20 that need to be sanded and stained. Even with the cost of materials, you are still going to come out ahead over paying full price for a new item. The money you save you can spend to pick up accessory pieces such as a bulletin board or desk lamp. By choosing just the right pieces for your work place, you will create an environment you will look forward to spending time in.

Effective Medical Filing Systems

Medical records usually equal a tonne of paperwork. Hospitals, doctor’s offices, pharmacies, and medical laboratories are faced with the challenge of keeping records of medical histories, medicine records, and other medical records in their everyday operations. Although keeping medical records organized is never an easy task, it is made a lot more convenient with the help of medical filing systems.

Medical filing systems are a great way to keep track of medical records whilst also keeping them organized. With them at hand, records are easier to find whenever the medical records or medical history of a patient is needed. Medical filing system includes medical office furniture such as medical file cabinets, medical chart holders, mobile file carts, lateral file cabinets, x-ray file storage, and many others.

When looking for a filing system, you should choose one that is the best fit for your office. Any furniture that is part of a medical filing system can be bought in different sizes, types, and colors so that it can fit to suit your office. The versatility that you get with medical filing systems is an added advantage, since you’re not be obliged to buy a bulky filing cabinet when your office space is limited. With different medical filing systems to choose from, you are in control of your medical office’s space.

Aside from medical records, emphasis is also needed for storage of large documents. Filing systems can only accommodate typical letter or legal sized documents. In most cases, however, there is a need for large documents to be stored and kept in an organized and orderly manner. Also, large documents such as maps, construction plans, blueprints, x-rays, survey plats, topographical maps, etc. needs to be protected from damage. A flat file storage system is perfect for this purpose.

Flat file storage systems come in different sizes to accommodate different large document sizes. You can choose from a variety of sizes such as ARCH B – 12″ X 18″, ANSI B – 11″ X 17″, ARCH C – 18″ X 24″, ANSI C – 17″ X 22″, ARCH D – 24″ X 36″, ANSI D – 22″ X 34″, 30″ X 42″ Drawings, ARCH E – 36″ X 48″, ANSI E – 34″ X 44″, and 42″ X 72″. Flat file storage systems also come in different types; such as steel flat files, wood flat files, large document vertical filing cabinets, vertical hanging files, parallel pin and post file systems, and large document file folders. With them at hand, you are assured that large documents that you have spent a great amount of time and resources to prepare is protected from damage and at the same time organized.

How Quality Waiting Room Chairs Will Improve Your Workspace

Posted on April 29th, 2010 in Chairs, Office Furniture | 2 Comments »

If your company or place of work has a waiting room that sees a lot of children pass through it (perhaps you work in a dentist or a doctors surgery) you’ll already know the importance of having waiting room chairs that children can sit on (and can enjoy sitting on) as well as having a general area that they can entertain themselves in.

While I do believe children are amazing and while I love their vibrancy and youthful energy the idea of a waiting room (i.e. a place where people sit still and be quiet until they’re seen) is not something that mixes well with most children.

I have designed and created a few waiting rooms in my time, and I found that having a mixture of waiting room chairs was one of the keys to creating a happy place. For example, I have some office waiting room chairs for the adults (or the parents) as well as some smaller waiting area chairs that are designed for young children and infants. The reason this works is because it makes them feel like that area is for them and not just for adults and it gives them an sense of responsibility.

In addition to having these extra waiting room chairs I also found that having things for kids to play with and be stimulated and entertained by was a great way to keep them occupied for the short time while they have to wait. You might have already been in a doctors waiting area where there are lots of children’s books laid out (for their parents to read to them) and toys for them to play with.

This is a great start, but I also recommend having a separate area (such as in the corner of the room) away from their waiting room chair where they can interact with other children and play together. In areas such as this I found that waiting room chairs blocked up the space, so I decided to have a plain carpeted section with building blocks (and other related toys – like Lego) for children to play with. An added benefit of this area is that parents can leave their children here under the supervision of the receptionist while they go in and see the dentist or doctor.

If you’re operating on a tight budget and you don’t think you can afford any of this you can always find some used waiting room chairs either online, at an auction or at a discount furniture shop.

How Used Office Chairs Can Save the Planet

Posted on April 23rd, 2010 in Chairs, Office Furniture, Used Furniture | 2 Comments »

During this recession that we are currently in the heart of it seems that many businesses in particular are struggling. Because of this buying used office chairs and office furniture has become increasingly popular as it can be bought for a much lower price than new furniture costs.

Buying used office chairs is a great way to save money and most of the time you won’t even know the difference between used office chairs and brand new ones. Obviously there are different levels of quality, and some will be worse off than others (usually depending on how long they’ve been used for) but it’s not too hard to find chairs for sale for a good price in good condition if you take the time to shop around.

In addition to this, buying second hand office chairs is a great way to help the environment, since most used executive chairs are thrown away and are left to rot in a landfill site while a new chair is made in a factory to replace it. If you are refurbishing your office (let’s say through necessity) or opening up a new part of an office where you need around 30-50 office chairs, if you buy used office chairs you’ll be saving almost 2 truckloads of waste going to a landfill site and polluting our planet. Many people have caught the ‘green bug’ and are trying to help the environment, and this is one great way to do so.

It is not just the used office chair that should be recycled and reused; you can by second hand furniture of any kind (such as desks, lamps, shelves, tables and so one). As we move into this greener world several companies and organizations have been set up with the sole purpose of regulating the flow of used office chairs (and other furniture) from offices to offices so that they don’t end up in a dumpster somewhere.

If you feel like you need new office chairs for your company the best thing to do is to search online for these companies (typing in ‘used office chairs’ or something along those lines is usually a good start). Note that while you will be paying a lower price you shouldn’t always buy every chair that you see just because it’s cheap. When shopping for used office furniture make sure to go and take a look at it first hand to inspect the condition of it. Occasionally some people try to sell on cheap office chairs that have been used for 10 years and that are full of holes!

Why You Need a High Back Chair

Posted on April 22nd, 2010 in Chairs, Office Furniture | No Comments »

There are many reasons why you should buy a high back chair (especially if you work in an office and spend a lot of time on the computer, and I’ll list a few of them here.

The best thing about high back chairs that that they are very tall chairs meaning that they can support the whole of your body (right up to your neck and head). Because the chair extends well above your head it means that you can sit back in it, relax and enjoy the full support of your back, neck and head. While you won’t be sitting like this when typing, it’s good to take a break every few minutes and to sit back and rest your neck.

A high back executive chair is not designed by accident, and they are specifically ergonomically designed to provide as much support and comfort as you require. If you’ve ever had any problems with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) than these high back chairs can help you since they’re also designed to counter these problems. While they are designed to be comfortable, they aren’t too comfortable (like a sofa is) and they are also there to make you sit up straight and to improve your posture.

As well as being extremely good for your health (when compared to other chairs), the high back chair is also something that exudes confidence and that looks utterly professional. You’ll often see these kinds of high back office chair in films during scenes where they’re at a big CEOs workplace. They are often made from black leather (or from something that looks like black leather) and whether you decide to get them with or without arms they fit into any office environment.

Remember that while most of these tall chairs look and are designed the same way, depending on where and who you buy it from you’ll probably end up paying different prices. For that reason it’s best to shop around. Also, different places seem to offer different lengths of warranty. Obviously you want the longest warranty on your high back chair. The chances are that it will never break, but you always want the peace of mind that you’re covered if it does. So if you’ve never bought a high back chair maybe it’s time to start thinking about it!
